Beyond the surface appearance of separation are patterns of connection. Each vibrant color a unique expression from the same brilliant light source. -AA
AFTER IMAGE
Celebrating the beautiful geometric relationships of color, Alison invites a personal investigation into the myth and patterns that enchant our human experience. Each figure is a personification of the CMY vs RGB color theory and decorated with elemental and archetypal correspondences. Alison challenges the belief that there is strict good & evil and questions whose image we truly are made in as we create. There is more to explore in this life than this illusion of duality and she urges us to recognize the two sides are really always one. There is always a place of balance, just as within the perception of any color is then it's opposite- the After Image.
FULL CIRCLE
Inspired by Tibetan sand mandalas, Alison explores the sacred geometry and interconnections that link the temporary world of form to the eternal dimension of the formless. By painting on cardboard, she changes the perception of the low value material into a higher value illusion with meaning and beauty. However, specifically using oil paint directly onto the cardboard itself also defies archival methods and she intentionally limited the 'lifespan' of the artworks, accepting that her art, too, is temporary. Some pieces were even destroyed immediately after the gallery show, not unlike how the monks wipe away their meticulous meditation art soon after it's very completion. From a single point or a spec of sand to the multiplication & variety of existence, the pattern returns to itself like a fractal. One may glimpse the divine in what brings us Full Circle.
